About

A Love for music has always been the driver. An early introduction to classical guitar with tutoring by Barry Becker set me on a musical trajectory. Notwithstanding hours of listening to Radio 5 with Barney Simon and Keith Lindsay and others, purchases of my first vinyl records Stevie Wonders Hotter than July, Depeche Mode’s Speak and Spell, UB40’s Signing Off. An incident of shoplifting The Police’s Ghost in the Machine on vinyl at Checkers Sandton City in 1982 highlighted the seriousness of my Love? Live concerts such as the Concert in the Park at Ellis Park in 85, Rabbitt in Joburg in the 70’s, Queen at Sun City, Depeche Mode and U2 at Ellis Park gave me a taste of what was to come

In 2013 I moved to Cape Town from Joburg to start my concept cafe/Venue, Slow Life. It was there that I secured musical friendships with musicians, producers, artists and started to produce live shows. In 2017 I discovered the magic of The Olympia Bakery in Kalk Bay and that was to be my favourite space from where to show live music, film, theatre. Other spaces The Labia, Casa Labia, Slave Church, Fugard, Methodist Church, Holy Trinity Church. My father was a jazz musician and photographer in the late 50’s and formed relationships with in particular the members of South Africa’s first great export The Blue Notes (Chris Magregor, Louis Moholo, Kippie Moeketse, Johnny Dyani and through this new found love jazz in its various forms has stuck. I curate and show music that is in line with my values, likes. Please see Past shows to see who Ive worked with.
